Apprentice Luisa's Bakers Toolkit: An insight and review.

Believe me when I say, I am no domestic goddess. I would have much rather poked my eyes out than slave over a hot stove in the kitchen. Oh and the endless episodes of Nigella, Rachel Allen and Ina Gartens that my mum and sisters put on were enough to make me feel nauseated.
However, once you become a mum the whole. ' cant cook wont cook' mantra goes completely out of the window, I mean lets face it, you cant be feeding your kids beans on toast all their lives.

Lately, I have started to experiment more and more in the kitchen as you do and have developed a real liking for baking in particular cupcakes.

Cupcakes have really taken the world by storm. I mean you can find them practically anywhere, a posh tea house, weddings, christenings, baby showers, graduations and even funerals. Whatever the occasion, everybody wants a piece. And whats more, nowadays, the choices are endless, more creamier frosting's, edible glitters, pearl beads, a wide range of flavours and if anyone wants to add more to the list, feel free!

I was very lucky to be sent some baking and decorating samples from the amazing  Bakers Toolkit, the 'innovators for everything cake decorating and baking related', as they put it.
For those of you that don't know, Bakers Toolkit was launched this year by 2013 Apprentice runner up Luisa Zissman, if you do not know who Luisa is, well where have you been?! Having watched The Apprentice religiously this year, it is such a privilege to be able to sample products from the very business idea she was putting forward to Lord Sugar.

From everything to the products, the branding, the website of Bakers Toolkit, one thing is clear is that Luisa is extremely passionate and professional when it comes to what she does best, certainly not just a pretty face is she?
Bakers Toolkit, on closer inspection appears to be very user friendly, simple yet effective and to the point. The site doesn't seem too cluttered either with lots of images and ads which usually has a tendency to put me off. The range is extensive and oh so pretty. Some may even argue that its only target market are females due to the imagery and colour used, however this can be debated.

So, lets move on the what I was sent shall we. (In no particular order)

I received the Blue Fully Edible Mini Pearl Beads, two Fully Cake And Cupcake Glitters in Turquoise Blue and Orange, Edible Shapes in Love, Ready To Roll Icing in Pure White and Pink as well as Blue Food Colouring Gel Paste to try.

The first thing that caught my eye about all of these was definitely the packaging. Its cute and chic and economical and would most definitely grab my attention if these were stacked on a supermarket shelf. All the products are clearly branded and come in good quality, sturdy packaging that doesn't look cheap.
I was lucky enough to try some delicious cupcakes from Yum Yum Cakes and Cupcakes and simply couldn't help but have a little play around with all the products! Don't they just look so pretty and far too good to eat! Take a look at my little creations with these and do excuse the crappy iPhone pictures.

 The blue mini pearl beads can add a great touch and extra detail to say a wedding cake, baby boy baby shower, a wedding or just in general. These are available in a wide range of colours too. And check out the wonderful innovative cute lids, I have never quite seen anything like these.

Next were the Fully Edible cake and cupcake glitters. Now we all need glitter to add a sparkle to our lives and well now you can add sparkle to your cakes and cupcakes with these amazing edible glitters. Again, these are available in a full range of colours and come in fab little pots you could almost mistake them for eye shadows! Simply sprinkle on or use with a brush as they suggest. I  got them in a gorgeous turquoise blue and orange colour.

 
Next, the Edible Shapes in Love is definitely my favourite out of the lot, these come in red and white and a mixture of the letters L, O, V and E. These are a perfect edition to cakes and cupcakes for a wedding, anniversary and valentines just for adding that extra special touch. The fact that these are edible mean you can practically use these anywhere for that romantic gesture, even of a piece of toast for your loved one. I will definitely be putting these to good use on my cupcakes come this Valentines!

 

 

As I am not a professional baker, I am still yet to try the Blue Food Colouring paste and the Ready To Roll Icing kit. The food colouring paste comes in a 30g squeezy bottle again in a range of colours and is perfect for icing, sponges and buttercream.

The Ready to Roll icing  like the other product again come in a wide range of colours and again looks like another fab product. Here is what Bakers Toolkit say about it 'The Bakers Toolkit Roll 'n' Ice Professional ready to roll icing has been made with you, the customer, in mind, by giving the smoothest, most professional look to your cakes, whilst being extremely easy to use. I would like to thank Bakers Toolkit for allowing me to try these wonderful products, I would without a doubt recommend these to bakers and those who passionately bake frequently. I will definitely continue to try these out and look forward to using the food colouring and ready to roll icings. I just love how Bakers Toolkit provide simple and easy to follow recipes on their site too, they are definitely worth checking out.

Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation: Review.

Hope you are well and wrapping up for the oh so cold days. Here in the UK, although we haven't quite seen the sight of snow just yet, we are having some rather bitterly cold days.

Now, apologies I have been quite MIA lately, life have been far too busy for me particularly these past few weeks  and thus, things have been a bit slow on the blogging side. However, I have made a promise to myself to do lots more blogging in the new year so watch this space!

There has been such a hype about the not so new Rimmel Wake Me Up Foundation and I have been meaning to knuckle down and get this review done.

I was sent this foundation by Glamour Magazine to sample almost two years ago as part of a beauty panel questionnaire and I must admit, I didn't exactly rush to trying it on. There are simply two reasons for this. One, well because I used to be a snob and was quite dubious about trying High Street or  'drugstore' as it is known in the US foundations (It was all Mac Mac Mac back in the days) and two, I have never been blown away by Rimmel Foundations in the past so it wasn't really on top of my list of products I wanted to try.

Lately, I had a huge makeup and cosmetics clear out as you do at some point and happened to stumble across it again and decided to give it a try. And actually, as it happens, I was pleasantly surprised! What appeared to be a thick gloopy looking liquid in a pump it bottle, actually gave an amazing natural looking radiant dewy glow to my skin but appeared to be semi matte at the same time. I have recently become quite fond of the dewy look and in fact have been searching high and low for a foundation to give me just that and here this was right under my nose.

At first, I was put off by the shade (303 True Nude)  thinking it was far too light for my complexion but giving it the good old back of the hand test, applied using my RT stippling brush, it went on like a dream. It blends well, doesn't look ashy or grey under lighting and best of all, didn't dry out or irritate my skin and stayed put all day long. Big thumbs up! It really does 'wake you up' as the name suggests. I honestly cannot fault it.

 

 

 

You cannot really tell in natural light, but this has a slight shimmer to it which I suppose is what gives you that glow but it is rather deceptive and isn't an issue at all. I was super impressed by not the coverage, but the amount needed, only a tiny amount is required for a full face coverage, I would say approximately  1.5 pumps full if that makes any sense but of course, this depends on what kind of coverage you prefer, personally I am not a fan of the 'slapped on' look and remember, as with everything, the coverage can always be built up.

 

Believe it or not, I am quite fond of the gloopy thick consistency as it means it doesn't run off the back of my hands as I have had with some liquid foundations in the past. There doesn't appear to be a strong off putting smell either thankfully, although there is a delicate floral scent and the convenient pump glass bottle which allows you to have control over how much product to use is in fact quite sturdy too so no chances of any product leaking out.

 

 

 This works a treat if you have some dry patches of skin like myself, it is surprisingly quite lightweight and you could almost forgot you had it on. Best of all? Aside from making me look fresh faced every time I put it on, it leaves my skin feeling healthy and moisturised. Oh and lets not forgot to mention the fact that it contains SPF 15. Hooray! If you have normal, dry and combination skin and you are after a natural glow without looking tanned then I think this may be the one for you too.

Overall, this is an amazing amazing foundation and definitely deserves all the hype it receives. Considering it is priced at an affordable £8.99* for 30ml in six variable shades and can be purchased at all Superdrug and Boots, it definitely without a doubt beats some of the other much hyped about highstreet/drugstore foundations and could possibly  even give some of the higher end foundations a run for their money.

I think it is safe to say, I have finally found my everyday go to, all year round  foundation and this is something that has quickly become a staple in my personal kit and will be staying with me for a very long time. I am so glad I rediscovered this and didn't throw it out, I will most certainly be heading to Superdrug or Boots soon as there is currently a 3 for 2 offer on these. Is this ground-breaking enough to replace my Mac Studio Fix? It most certainly is I reckon!

My First NYX UK Cosmetics Haul.

Hello lovelies, I'm back with another post and today will be a quick haul type post on my recent order with NYX cosmetics. Now, I rarely do hauls but wanted to with this one as it was my first ever purchase from NYX when they recently had their free shipping on orders over £25 offer.

 

I was really gutted at IMATs as the queues were far too long for me to actually have a good look around and buy stuff so I really jumped at the chance of getting free delivery and of course adding some stuff to my ever growing makeup collection!

 

I am really loving NYX Cosmetics at the minute, they have a wide range of products all at affordable prices as well as hearing really good things about some of their blushes, lippies and jumbo eye pencils. Unfortunately in the UK, there isn't actually a store where we can go buy their products so online it was. And of course, it was an excuse to really make good use of my pro discount with them too.

 

 The products arrived beautifully and carefully packaged in about 2 days if I remember correctly via interlink. I am rather fond of Interlink as I love the fact that they text /email you  to say when your delivery is arriving, whom by and what time so you can make sure you are available and know what time to expect it rather than waiting around for it all day as I have often done in the past with Royal Mail!

These are in no particular order and seeing as I have only just received them, it wouldn't be fair to post a review on them, instead, Ill be explaining why I purchased the particular item, (some will have a better explanation than others I reckon) and so on. I'm sure you get the drift...:-)

I promise, Ill try and keep this post short and sweet and let the pictures do the talking (I know I always say this and then ramble on!)  Oh and do excuse the quality of the pictures, I am relying on my poor old reliable IPhone just until I buy myself a nice little camera. Here goes....

 

Of course I just had to order their Jumbo eye pencil in Black bean, after using their Milk Jumbo eye pencil I was super super impressed. Check out my review on it here. I am really looking forward to trying this to create really dramatic as well as subtle smokey eye looks and play around with the darker colours. I said in my previous post that I had my eye on this didn't I, and here it is :-) I am pretty sure that this product will not let me down.
 

I also decided to pick up their SFP HD Finishing Powder from their HD Studio range. I have always had my eye on the Makeup Forever and Kryolan version of this but have always been a little vary seeing as they are a little on the steep side so thought I would give this a go. Yes it is white and no I haven't lost my marbles, it is simply a 100% mineral finishing powder that apparently is perfect for setting foundation. NYX describe it as "This powder leaves your skin looking radiant and luminous, while absorbing oil for that flawless matte finished look". Sounds like exactly what I need. I plan to use this on special occasions if I am off to a party or a wedding. I have really high hopes for this and fingers crossed it does what it says on the tin.

Across the blogger world and Twitter I have heard some great stuff about their blushers and decided to give Cinnamon a go after having a good hard look at all the shades available, yes there are 25 of them so naturally you'd want them all! This cute little thing is in powder form and upon my first swatch of it, it seems super pigmented, easy to blend and goes well with my complexion. I am definitely picking up some other colours next time and at £6 you really cant go wrong. Money well spent.

About a year ago, I came across this orange concealer pot which was only available at Mac Pro and sadly, I couldn't seem to find any other alternatives anywhere so when I realised NYX did their concealers in Orange too I couldn't have added it to my cart any quicker! Now orange concealer?! I hear you ask. Orange concealers can be used where the dark eye circles are really quite prominent and where a normal skin tone concealer isn't adequate to conceal it well. You simply dab a bit of the orange stuff around the eye area and then apply your normal concealer on top and voila! Now thankfully, whilst a mother wouldn't be a mother without any dark circles around the eyes as a sign of what once felt like endless sleepless nights, my normal concealer (I use Kryolan paint stick  in FS36) does the job of concealing just fine with nothing else required except a bit of setting powder, if not even that. I thought I'd try this when freelancing for any mature clients that need a little help in the under eye areas or anyone else that may suffer from them bad due to any reason.

If there is one thing I dislike about eyeshadows is the fact that sometimes you find that they crease, have fall outs and isn't maybe as vibrant as it looked before applying and apparently their Eyeshadow base in skin tone comes to the rescue. Here is what NYX have to say about it "Maximize the intensity, longevity and unashamed brilliance of your eye shadow statements with our eye shadow primer pots. Each of the three NYX Eye Shadow Bases—for vibrant, pearl or neutral tones—creates a smooth canvas for color, increases its durability and prevents fallout."  Here's hoping this is a good dupe for the UD primer potion as annoyingly, replacing the primer potions every so often isn't very good for my bank balance.

Along the way I also picked up a dual ended pencil sharpener seeing as I now own not one but TWO Jumbo sticks! Of course I already have a sharpener and yes a dual ended one at that but you can always end up losing one somewhere right?

I really do not know why I purchased some eyelash glue. I already have a few in my kit so I guess another one wont hurt right but I am glad I did pick this up as I got a pair of eyelashes in Fabulous absolutely free!

I am really into eyebrow powders at the moment to really define eyebrows and give them a shape and find that powders work much better than pencils (from experience anyway) to give them a more natural rather than the fake, harsh look. I chose to purchase dark brown as I find black is too harsh and really give me the drawn on look. This cute duo compact come in two shades, Dark brown and brown, a little pot of wax to groom stray hairs, a little slanted brush for definition as well as a round wand brush to shape and style. All you need really and you really cannot go wrong for £5.50.

I had to obviously have some glitter somewhere in there and so I picked up a
Liquid Crystal liner in Crystal Gold. I plan to use this on clients that want glittery eyes or a gold eyeliner for adding a sparkle to their lovely eyes.

Lets move onto the lips shall we. As always it is very difficult to rely on on line swatches for anything as it may vary from on screen once you purchase it. I definitely wanted some lip products too and so picked up two matte lipsticks in Shocking Pink and Indie Flick as well as lip pencils in Fushcia and Coral to match with it. Besides a classic red, every girl needs a pink and a coral lippy in their collection and these colours are great and I plan to wear them when I want to brighten up my day. The corals go brilliantly with the Cinnamon blusher. Result! They had a sale on some of their products and so I decided to pick up just one lipstick not allowing myself to go crazy. The lipstick is from their Black Label Lipstick range and the colour I picked up is Midnight Dinner. Truthfully? I am not so keen on the shade, on line it looks like a soft rose pink but actually is a mild berry colour if that makes sense. Not really a shade I would go for but never mind, I am sure I will find some use for it somewhere....

NYX Milk Jumbo Eye Pencil Review & Swatches.

You are probably thinking why on earth am I posting a review on this now when I have had it for ages, in fact, what I am asking myself is why did this not come on my beauty radar any sooner. Since I have used it numerous times, I thought it was fair to do a decent review on it.

I first happened to come across the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk after seeing it on many Youtube tutorials and on the blogosphere and I got sucked right in! And boy, am I glad I did.

NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk is really as nice as everyone says it is, despite not usually being a big fan of creamy eyeshadows and pencils, being the busy mum that I am, I seem to have fallen for the creamy hype at the moment seeing as I need to apply my makeup quickly and efficiently whilst having two toddlers running around. They are just so easy to use, no fallouts and no detailed blending required whatsoever, easy peasy! All the rumours about this being so great are all true!

Sometimes, when working with loose pigments or eyeshadows that are so not heavily pigmented in colour (the 120 colour palette springs to mind here),  the NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk comes to the rescue. It is definitely a must have product in any makeup kit. It really does live up to its hype of enhancing the colour of the eyeshadows worn,(when worn underneath) making them more vibrant and acting as a base for it as well as for loose and mineral pigments to stay put on the lids.

Whats more, cream pencils such as this prove to be even more successful when it comes to ease of use as they multitask as an eyeshadow base, eyeliner for both top and the waterline and as a cream shadow. I have also found it to be a great little product for applying in the inner corners of the eyes to open up small eyes and also use as a highlighter on the brow bone too since it is so easy to build up colour and blend.



Milk is a cool toned white colour that is fairly creamy in texture and has a matte finish. it is slightly thick yet very easy to blend.

The only thing I would say though is that if most creamy eyeshadows and pencils have a tendency to crease on you, then this may too if used alone, although I haven't actually tried it as an eyeshadow alone so I cannot really say. The only other thing is that not all skin tones will be able to get away with using it as an eyeshadow unfortunately since it is a stark bright shade of white so its probably wise not to buy it for this reason alone.

 

As it is a jumbo stick and larger in size, you probably would struggle at first to apply this neatly onto the waterline, I still have trouble and therefore stick to my regular sized eye pencils. Don't let this put you off though, as practise makes perfect like they say.

 

These are readily available on most sites and of course in a bid to avoid any counterfeit products, it is always best to purchase on the official NYX site. I picked mine up from Amazon though for a bargain £6 including postage and packaging. Not only are these great, but like most NYX products, quite affordable too. You get a lot for the price you pay too, 0.18oz, huge compared to Mac Shadesticks which I think are 0.05oz which is why it definitely deserves another thumbs up.

 

I don't think you could ever regret picking one of these up. Oh, and did I mention that they come in a huge range of colours too? I have already put Slate, Black bean and Dark Brown on the wish list. Hello smoky eyes!

Artist Of Makeup- Flawless coverage HD Cream Foundation Review.

lovelies, I hope this blog post finds you well. Firstly, apologies for being so MIA lately, I know it sounds like a cliche, but I have had so much going on lately what with the kids, birthdays, getting bits and bats sorted around the house and I'm sure you get the picture. For those of you that are full time mummies like me will know that life sometimes is like a roller coaster but  that's not necessarily a bad thing, although sometimes I guess it is good to have a bit of a break from the Internet to really give yourself the time to focus on the more important things in life.

So anyway, things have seemed to have calmed down for a little while so I am back with another makeup review. Hurrah! Now, before I get started, I am super excited about this one as far as I know and see, I will currently be the FIRST ever non Youtube blogger to post a review of this product so its safe to say, the pressures on a little ha ha !

Sorry to keep you all guessing, the product I am rambling on about is the Artist Of Makeup foundation palette by Zukreat. If you closely follow Zukreat on her Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Youtube, you will see that around the time of its launch at IMATS, there was (and currently still is) a huge amount of hype and excitement for the Artist Of Makeup brand and cosmetics. It is always nice to see a makeup artist and Youtuber allowing us to follow their journey of launching a brand and product from start to finish, I suppose it is nice as you feel a part of it. Back in June, just a few days after qualifying as a makeup artist, I went to IMATS in London for the first ever time and of course, I stopped by at the Artist Of Makeup stand to finally see and swatch all the wonderful products in real life. as expected though, most of the products were sold out, no surprise really so any new orders had to be placed by filling out an order form and getting the products delivered to you. Sounded simple enough.

It was three days after having an eye op (In case you're wondering why I had the shades on!) so needless to say I did feel all hot and bothered at most times during the day, the eye drops I had to insert every two hours made me drowsy so that didn't help matters, so I didn't really allow myself to have a thorough look. The product that really stood out to me, was the Flawless coverage HD Cream Foundations which I was so eager to try.

Thoughts? Well the product finally arrived after three months of frantically waiting, I suppose it was out of Zukreats hands as it was all an International order, shipping etc. The product lived up to its hype so I guess it was well worth the wait. There are a total of six colours suitable for all skin tones not too far off in colour from one another enabling you to mix two shades together if desired. I like the fact that it comes with a clear lid so that you can actually see what you are doing rather than faffing around if you are on a makeup job. The palette and foundations come separately so you need to insert them in yourself,  couldn't be easier though, carefully remove the foundations from their packets and insert in the slot. The pans are magnetic too, so that they do not budge once inserted. Also, I suppose it makes sense to insert them in order of shade ranging from light to dark but I guess this is down to individual preference.






If you quickly become accustomed to the six different shades then there's no need to label them either. Sometimes I did find that the product smudged onto the case however this can easily be wiped off with a wet wipe. The colours are number coded as follows, No. 5, 15, 25, 35, 45 and 55.
The case itself does not have a button or anything to close it, instead it just snaps shut. My only concern would be that in really hot weather conditions, due to the lid being transparent, there may be a possibility of the foundations melting slightly but I guess ill only ever know if I take this on holiday with me. Oh and did I mention you get a cute little 'Zukreat' powder puff sponge with it too.

Results? Holy Moly, are these super pigmented or what? The product easily glides on and has buildable coverage, yet at the same time, it feels so lightweight on the skin. Something I dislike about using waxy/stick type foundations is that heavy caked on feeling on the skin yet you can almost forget you're wearing this as it does not seem to be heavy on the skin at all. I did also find that it worked brilliantly as a concealer too and didn't crease at all. Result! I have to say though, I did find that after using this all over my face, my skin did feel a little bit dry afterwards, but this may be because of the recent weather change and the fact that unfortunately, I do not drink enough water. I guess if you do have dry skin, I would advise using a moisturiser and  primer beforehand just to keep the skin hydrated and help with product application. As per Zukreats suggestion (She did a quick tutorial on this), the foundations are best applied with a buffer brush, (I used my Nanshy and Real Techniques one) but any good one will do.


Price? I cannot remember the exact prices of each of these and the palette which is an additional charge, but I do remember it all costing around £91.50 with an additional £4.50 for postage and packaging. Conclusion? Definitely a good buy and well worth the money. I am looking to repurchase this for my makeup kit for use on my clients, however as I am currently suffering from dry skin, it may probably be best for me to stick to my usual liquid foundation or probably none at all for the time being! I will definitely give it another go though once my skin calms down a little. It works brilliantly for me as a concealer and I have found an excellent use for the lightest shade as a highlighter and the darkest for contouring so
money well spent overall.

I have my eye on the eye shadow and blusher palettes next, don't the colours just look amazing?

Juzba Indian Jewellery- A review.

I am very excited about today's post, well actually I am always excited about all my posts, but todays post is slightly different, it is a review on an Indian jewellery piece and it definitely makes a refreshing change from the makeup posts that I usually post.

Juzba Indian jewellery very kindly sent me this stunning jewellery piece from their limited edition collection to review and  I have since quickly fallen in love with it. For those that do not know, Juzba Indian Jewellery are a UK based company (no customs or taxes hurrah!) that offer a vast range of ethnic pieces ranging from the traditional bridal looks, henna parties, registry and general parties where the wearer may simply want to dress to impress. What's more, there is something available for every individual for every occasion all at quality affordable prices so you do not have to worry about breaking the bank.

Now I have to admit, I have never been much of a jewellery person or lover and do not often wear and shop for it to the extent some girls I know do, but, when I stumbled across Juzba Indian jewellery on Facebook, (here), I was instantly drawn to them, but it was only when I visited their website, I was attracted to them even more. One thing for certain was that they definitely stood out for me at first glance, not something I usually find with jewellery. As I have gotten older, I have found myself to steer away from the big bulky pieces and instead opt for the more elaborate, simple types and I have found just that with Juzba.

Anyway, that's enough talking, lets move on to the packaging shall we. It was obvious, the very first thing that caught my eye was no doubt the packaging. It was beautifully packaged in a quality beige box with their name and logo with matching brown tissue paper so that the delicate piece would not be damaged. It did not give off that the cheap imitated feeling as I have found the case with other jewellery, in fact, it was quite the opposite. Provided just how beautifully it was packaged, it would definitely make a perfect gift too for that someone special.

 

The piece I was sent to try consisted of a necklace, earrings and a piece for the forehead most commonly known as a 'tikka'. The 'kundan' (a traditional form of Indian gemstone jewellery involving a gem set with gold foil between the stones and its mount, usually for elaborate necklace- Source- Wikipedia) featured a combination of ruby red, green and silver gems with a quad of four silver petals along the necklace and the design remained consistent through the earrings and tikka too. The tikka can also be used as a side piece for the head too especially with an up hair do.

Like most traditional Indian jewellery sets, the necklace has a 'draw string like' attachment at the back so that it can be tightened/loosened as desired as well being a standard fit to fit people of all shapes and sizes.

Since I received the package in good time, I chose to wear this kundan on the festival of Eid as it is very elaborate and elegant and matched perfectly with my green jazzy outfit, although elegant and simple, it is definitely enough to 'make the look' and I am a firm believer that the jewellery will always add the finishing touches to an outfit and complete the final look along with the hair and makeup of course.

In addition to this, this particular set from Juzbas limited edition collection is so special in the sense that it can be worn in many different ways. How, I hear you ask? Well, for one, it can be worn minus the tikka, the necklace can be worn alone with a plain or jazzy suit and similarly, just the earrings alone if you really want to keep the look simple. And best of all, it can be worn with almost any coloured outfit as the beauty in it sometimes is the mismatched look.

Juzba Indian Jewellery have really appealed to me, all their pieces are stunning and I love the fact that they breathe that rich Indian culture and I quite favour the Jaipur/Rajasthani look some of them have going on, wouldn't it be nice to look like an extra from Jodha Akbar?
